This place is magical. My boyfriend and I were heading back north from Big Sur and decided to stop for dinner because we were starving. I had heard of this restaurant online before I left for my trip, and thought we should see if they could fit us in. The host was a little rude when I asked if they had a table, but only 20 minutes later they fit us in outside on the bar-style seating overlooking the ocean.
We ordered way too much food that we ate as we watched the light of the sunset paint the skies in front of us. Trees blocked the actual sunset so the view wasn't as amazing as it could have been for that, but I didn't mind.
The food was good. I'm sure there's much better food for the same price elsewhere but I enjoyed my meal. We got a cheese platter for an appetizer, then I had the roast chicken for dinner, and boy was that a GIANT chicken. It took me forever to eat, but it was SO good. And this is coming from someone who has spent the last 15 years as mostly a vegetarian. Then we had apple crumb pie for dessert, which we were told was made in house from scratch. The pie wasn't that great, maybe because it wasn't heated up enough. The vanilla ice cream with it was tasty.
My favorite part of the evening was when all of the waiters came running out to the balcony area and instructed us all to LOOK AT THE MOON. A big white ball was quickly rising up over the mountains to the south. It rose so quickly you could see it dance up into the sky. Later, as it rose, its white glow spilled down to the waters below, glistening on an otherwise darkened shore.
All the while, jazz music played in the background (not live, granted, but that didn't ruin it) and the heat lamps warmed my back. I could have sat there forever, it was a lovely meal and a perfect end to our weekend excursion to Big Sur.
