Now, the tallest coaster in North America, Kingda Ka, stands 456 feet high. These coasters are not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for anyone afraid of heights.

Nitro
Nitro is a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. It opened in spring 2001. When it opened, it was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in New Jersey. While Kingda Ka, another coaster at the same park, holds the title of the tallest and fastest coaster in the world, Nitro is still worth a ride. Although there are no inversions, the ride features six camel backs, a hammer head turn and a 540-degree helix. Nitro starts off with a 230 foot climb and then drops 215 feet at 66 degrees, reaching through a 161 foot airtime hill. After that, riders soar into a tight U-turn to the right called the Hammerhead. Then the ride goes through another airtime hill before being shot into an S-curve and then a double helix.
