When I was 13 or so, I remember our field trip to Washington DC from the list Smithsonian Museums - Washington, DC
I remember coming here one of the first years the musuem opened. I was going through a history phase where I was reading "The Murderers among us" by Simon Wiesenthal and wanted to pay my respects to those people who had suffered so much. It was a humbling experience. When you arrived, they would give a little brochure with a real life Holocaust survivor's name and what was known about them and if they had lived or died. I remember my had lived. I just remember all the big pictures and the train cart used. The museum is standing reminder of what extreme prejudice and hatred did to one group of people.
