Ancient Thera (Santorini)
Aerufe suggested: Ancient Thera is Santorini's classical antiquity city. It is located at a height of 370m on the Mesa vouno mountain that dominates the village of Kamari. Its strategic location offers stunning unrestricted views to the Aegean Sea in almost all directions. Ancient Thera was built during the 9th century BC by Dorian colonists from Sparta lead by Theras who lent his name to Thera, the formal appellation of Santorini. Signs of habitation until the Byzantine era have been found. Ancient Thera had two seaports, namely Oia (Greek: Οία, not to be confused with modern Oia) and Elefsina (Greek: Ελευσίνα), located respectively at present-day Kamari and Perissa.
